Who am I? Roots of the Modern Problem

  • The changes around sex and gender that have occurred in the last 15 years have been quite dramatic
  • The lecture will contain more than what is written in the book Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self: Cultural Amnesia, Expressive Individualism, and the Road to Sexual Revolution (Carl Truman)
  • Changes are occurring at a rapid phase. We feel a sense of falling behind in terms of changes. By the time we process one, another issue requires our attention. It is easy to despair in such times
  • However, our duty is to keep focus on the duties of the church without being distracted by the chaos around us
  • This is a strange world for most older people. People in their 60s have seen the Cold War, the fall of the Soviet Union, etc. It was never expected that we would be discussing the issue of transgenderism
  • People who like books, ideas, arguments (many Protestants have this culture) have tried to confront this new development with arguments
  • However we are not just creatures of argument.
